Science ophthalmology Eye health: Science constituting a branch of medicine, having for object the study of the eye and its appendages from a point of anatomical, physiological and pathological view. Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine aimed at the anatomical, physiological and pathology of the eye. Henri Parinaud (1844-1905), considered the father of modern French ophthalmology. Ophthalmologists are surgeons who specialize in diseases of the eye. The first who understood that cataracts were indeed clouding of the lens was Pierre Brisseau (1631-1717) who, in a short text from 1705, described his autopsy results. This was confirmed by Antoine Maître-Jean (1650-1725) who made important experiments on animals in 1707.
